America’s public lands are under threat based on new legislation that will soon be voted on in the Senate.
The legislation, included in the administration’s budget bill, was released last week by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR). The proposal would require the Department of the Interior and U.S. Forest Service to offer up for sale millions of acres of public land across 11 western states over the next five years. Any land sold through this process must be developed into housing or “community needs as defined by the Secretary of the Interior.”
